The BrdsNBz has won the prestigious Healthy Teen Network’s National Outstanding Emerging Innovation Award 2010, Best Practice by the National Clearinghouse for Families & Youth and runner up for the Southeastern Council of Governments Innovation Award 2010.

Think about it... what happens when a child has a, well, delicate question but is too shy or afraid to ask a parent or trusted adult face to face? Our survey says: they go to their friends first or they turn to the internet looking for answers.

That’s why having an immediate and trusted resource they can text to help guide them through the maze of navigating typical teen issues with accurate non-judgemental information and resources is the first line of defense.

The BrdsNBz Text Message Warmline is medically accurate and nonjudgmental. We don't give how-to sex advice. We answer questions that are sometimes tough for teens to ask parents or an adult face to face and in some cases, even those sex ed questions schools can't answer.

As often as possible, we point teens to other trusted sources of support - parents, doctors, trusted websites, local help organizations.

Through the BrdsNBz Text Message Warmline, our health educator partners, the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Campaign of North Carolina (APPCNC) provides teens with a confidential, medically accurate, personalized answer within 24 hours. Sex, love, health, dating problems, sexuality, STDs, pregnancy, anatomy - we've heard it all! The only thing we can't tell you is "how-to..."
